Our Core Programs
Family Promise Athens provides a continuum of services designed to prevent and end homelessness for families with children. Through our five core programs, the organization supports families at every stage of housing instability, helping them move from crisis to long-term stability.
Prevention
The Prevention program assists families who are at risk of losing their housing. Through targeted financial assistance and case management, families receive support such as help with rental arrears and other urgent housing-related costs. By intervening early and addressing financial crises before eviction occurs, the program helps families remain safely housed and avoid entering homelessness.
Diversion
The Diversion program serves families who are already experiencing homelessness or are seeking shelter. Staff work with families to quickly identify safe housing alternatives and provide financial assistance for move-in expenses such as security deposits or first month’s rent. Diversion focuses on rapidly connecting families to housing solutions, helping them bypass the shelter system whenever possible.
Shelter
The Shelter program provides temporary housing for families experiencing homelessness. Families stay in scattered-site shelter or transitional housing units for a limited period while working closely with case managers to address barriers such as employment, childcare, transportation, and housing searches. The goal is to provide a safe environment where families can stabilize and prepare for permanent housing.
Housing
The Housing program offers longer-term housing opportunities for families who need additional time and support to achieve independence. Families live in subsidized housing units with lease agreements while receiving case management and supportive services. This program provides a stable foundation that allows families to increase income, build savings, and stabilize in permanent housing.
Stabilization
The Stabilization program provides ongoing support and resources to help families maintain housing and avoid returning to homelessness. Families receive access to essential household supplies, referrals to community partners, and continued case management from staff through the Family Resource Center. These services help families build long-term stability and resilience after securing housing.
