We need your help.
FPA has a small professional staff. Volunteers allow us to enhance the services and support we can provide families. Our primary volunteer opportunities include providing meals for families in shelter, driving the van to help kids get to childcare, providing front desk reception support at our resource center, and group cleaning and organizing events.
We also welcome student interns from area schools and colleges. If you are interested in an internship see below.
We are a Volunteer Organization
Family Promise is a community response to homelessness. As a result of mobilizing community volunteers and partnering with other organizations, we are able to reduce the overhead costs associated with running a shelter in order to spend funds on direct client costs.
As a volunteer, you can directly help families who are experiencing homelessness through a number of avenues. While the majority of our volunteers are members of our partner congregations, we also have many who are “at large,” who discovered FPA through word-of-mouth, in a class or civic organization, or online. All volunteers must be trained. To start the process, sign up via our portal below.

Internships
Family Promise of Athens typically has several interns working in our offices. We have two classifications of Interns - Social Work Interns and General Interns.
Social Work Interns
Social Work Interns work under the supervision of our Service Director and one of our MSW Board members. As an academic internship specific criteria must be met between the requesting college or school and Family Promise of Athens. We generally only accept Master’s level social work interns. Contact our Executive Director for more information.
General Interns
General interns serve in a variety of roles including public relations, marketing, social media, administration, non-profit, and receptionist. If interested contact the Executive Director.
